The main water congress and exhibition event in Russia, held from June 18 to 20, 2024, was attended by 5,500 attendees from 26 countries for three days. 84 regions of Russia was participated in the Congress Among the international participants are representatives of: Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Cameroon, Germany, Chin, Cyprus, Ecuador, India, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Nigeria, UAE, Portugal, Serbia, Somalia, Switzerland, Türkiye, Ukraine Uruguay, Uzbekistan.
The wide congress program included 35 business events in the format of round tables, plenary sessions, panel sessions and expert discussions. Over 250 speakers representing government, business, science, industry and public organizations took part in congress program. In addition, the forum hosted international meetings of official delegations of Russia and China, youth and student conferences, a water management photo exhibition, and a virtual cinema of National Agency of Water Resourses (Vodoresursy), where visitors got acquainted with the picturesque views of rivers and lakes of Russia.
VIII Russian Water Congress and Exhibition VODEXPO-2024 launched the work of the first Youth Water Council in Russia, which included representatives of the largest universities in the country: MGIMO, St. Petersburg State University, RTU MIREA, State University, ITMO and others. The Council promotes the involvement of young people in solving global issues on the water agenda and provides an opportunity for students to formulate their proposals on water management topics, voicing them at the largest industry congress and exhibition events.
The main topics of the Congress and Exhibition this year were:
·Russian Water resources for the country's national development goals: new challenges until 2030.
·Development of regional water potential: legal, financial and environmental aspects.
·Russia's technological leadership in environmental engineering and the development of cooperation with friendly countries in the supply and joint production of equipment for the water industry.
·Development of the New Water Strategy of the Russian Federation.
·Formation of the national project «Environmental Safety» and the federal project «Water of Russia» included in it.
·Providing the population with drinking water and modernizing the water supply and sewerage system within the framework of the new national project «Infrastructure for life».
·Development of state reclamation systems.
·Efficient use of water resources in industry and hydropower.
·Digitization of the water management complex.
·Protecting cities from floods and other water-related emergencies.
·Using the potential of groundwater for various industries and areas of the national economy.
·Expansion of transport corridors on inland waterways.
·Improving environmental legislation in terms of protection and improvement of water bodies.
·Attracting young people to the water industry.
Based on the results of all activities of the business program, about 150 proposals and initiatives were generated to improve legislation, change technical standards, regulatory and financial mechanisms, attract investments and develop human resources in the water sector. Some of the proposals will be included in the resolution for the purpose of further development with the federal legislative and executive authorities.
